Rebuilding History

By Elizabeth Beckman

The History and Archives project at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC is under way!

A preliminary survey of the three history rooms was begun by Dr. Bernadette Callery of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Information Sciences in February 2011 and finished by me, Elizabeth Beckman, an MLIS graduate student.  The survey turned up a large number of records in a variety of formats that span the entire history of Children’s Hospital, from copies of the hospital’s early charters and bylaws to pamphlets for patients and their parents from the last few years.  I look forward to sharing more details of our holdings as cataloguing progresses!

For now, here are some photos of the current state of the history rooms.  Additionally, there are some unusual items in the rooms that we are having some difficulty identifying.  I’ve taken pictures of them, and some of them are posted here

If you have any information on these items, please contact Kate Lindholm at kathleen.lindholm@chp.edu or Elizabeth Beckman at beckmanee@upmc.edu.

Visit the Children’s Hospital History section of our website at www.chp.edu/history, which we’ll be updating as the project progresses.
